Get an infrared scan to show where insulation is needed Dear Glenn: Early last spring, my wife and I added insulation to both attics. There used to be a noticeable ice dam over the front door, but I think that may have been corrected. Why do you think the snow on the back third of the upper roof has melted away? I'm a little disappointed to see this, but the roof of the family room is greatly improved. Also the roof over the left front bedroom upstairs used to have a circular black melting spot that appears to be corrected. I don't think this is due to a lack of insulation or ventilation. My guess is there is an air leak, or the chimney for the furnace is not insulated properly.What suggestions do you have for identifying the root cause before spending additional money?
