Consider whole-house surge protectors

Dear Glenn: We are doing a major addition -- 2,000-plus square feet -- and remodel to 3,000 square feet. For the new audio, TV, alarm and computer systems, it seems everyone recommends a surge protector. What about one whole-house surge protector? We live in an area with frequent storms and power outages and it's not uncommon for people to blow their AC units, TVs and computers.

Robin, Franklin

Dear Robin: A whole-house surge protector is an excellent idea. Give Bratcher Electric, (734) 722-0037, www.bratcherelectric.com, a call. They use the Eaton Cutler-Hammer whole-house surge protector.
