Blower test can diagnose heat loss issues
Dear Glenn: My husband and I recently purchased a beautiful brick home. My husband was in the Air Force for 21 years so we waited to buy a house until after he retired. It is approximately 1,600 square feet with hardwood floors. It is cold inside. It is almost as if whoever built this house had no clue about the best place to put a heating duct.
The heating ducts are by the doors in each room. We cannot even feel the heat. Where is it going? Is there someone we can call who can give a reasonably priced audit on our situation? Some rooms are warmer than others. Our living room is cold. We have a fireplace, as well. Please help.
Dear Colette: I would get in contact with Ed Irvine of Flame Heating, Cooling & Electrical, (888) 234-2340, www.flamefurnace.com. He will be able to determine heat loss by performing a blower door test, and then make adjustments.
