Look for No Dollar Limit when evaluating shingle warranties
Dear Glenn: Thanks for all the helpful tips in your newsletters. We have lived in our house since 1993. Our roof is a 25-year-asphalt shingle type and needs replacing after only 17 years.
I like the look of CertainTeed's Symphony roof which has a 50-year warranty.
The cost is steep; however, putting only one more roof on the house instead of two over the next 30 years about evens out the price.
Plus, I really like the look of the slate like shingles. Do you have any comments or suggestions?
Dear Lee: Glad you enjoy reading the e-newsletter. People who subscribe get added benefits. I would like you to check out the article I wrote on 9/20/2008. It talked about "No Dollar Limit" when it comes to shingle warranties. It means that no matter how bad the problem or the cost, the shingle manufacture will take care of the problem.
You can read and print out the article on my help site, www.MasterHandyman.com. Just type the words "No Dollar Limit" in the "Get Help from the Handyman" box on the top of the home page.
There also is a new roofing replacement guide on the bottom of the home page that you can download.
