Celebrate achievements with gift for yourself

After working hard all year on the job or around the house, it is time to reward yourself with a personal celebration “gift.” While these may not be the types of holiday gifts you usually get from your family, they can be the perfect items to celebrate your achievements, and spoil yourself a little as well.

A good bottle of wine is one of the most popular ways to celebrate, and the Aviatrix Crimson from the Chateau Aeronautique Winery, chateauaeronautiquewinery.com, in Jackson is a great choice. Available at Michigan by the Bottle Tasting Room, mbtbtasting.com, with locations in Auburn Hills, Shelby Township and Royal Oak, this wine has a big, bold Bordeaux-style blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc.

Speaking of Michigan products, Ingram’s Candies, ingramscandies.com, makes a Movie Mix candy that is the perfect reward to munch on while watching the big game or listening to your favorite radio show. It’s a soft-chew bark candy made from all-natural mini pretzels with a thick layer of butter caramel and coated in milk, dark and white chocolates.

Having a glass of bourbon to toast your accomplishments is another great tradition, and one brand in particular, Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon, larcenybourbon.com, would be a good choice. With its origins dating back to the 1870s, it has become one of the most famous bourbon brands in the world. This 6-year-old bourbon is made with wheat as the secondary grain, instead of the traditional rye, which makes it smoother tasting bourbon.

For coffee lovers, you can really reward yourself with one of the most rare coffees in the world, Gayo Kopi, gayokopi.com, Wild Luwak Arabica. The unique taste of this coffee comes from it being “processed” by a small feline known as the civet. Ethically sourced from 100 percent wild uncaged civet in the Gayo Highlands of Sumatra, its’ unique and delicate taste is achieved by the break up of coffee fruit by proteolytic enzymes in the digestive system of the civet, resulting in the coffee beans. But at a price of $89 for just for 3.53 ounces, it is a cup you will want to savor.

One gift that guys reward themselves with is a good cigar. But why buy one cigar when you can get nine quality cigars in a sampler pack like the Iconic 9 Brand Assortment available locally from the Jenuwine, jenuwinecigarlounge.com, Cigar Lounge locations in Sterling Heights, Troy and Royal Oak. This sampler contains a collection of some of the most iconic cigar brands on the market, including three Montecristo, three Romeo y Julieta and three H. Upmann.

Sometimes celebrating your accomplishments is best when you can tune out the world and tune in to your favorite music. Whether you like listening to Mozart, Sinatra or the Rolling Stones, the Bose, bose.com, QuietComfort 35 wireless headphones are the perfect item to help you de-stress from all your hard work. The Bluetooth wireless headphones feature the famous Bose sound along with noise-canceling technology so you hear nothing but your favorite tunes.

So if you really want to celebrate the fruits of your labor, pour a good glass, light your favorite cigar and put on your headphones to listen to the kind of music you like without bothering anyone else in the house. With a combination like that, you may never want to come out of your man cave.
