Products are available just for suspended ceilings Dear Glenn: I'm going to install a suspended ceiling in my basement. The problem I have is that there are two rectangular heating ducts that hang below the floor joists and run the length of the room. If I suspend the ceiling below the ducts, there won't be enough head room. I was wondering if painting the ducts the color of the ceiling tiles and tracks would be a viable option. Then, could I just screw the tile track to the duct and butt up the tiles to the duct. Or, can I attach the tiles directly to the ductwork? What would be my best bet for a good looking install? Mike, Marquette Dear Mike: I have two suggestions for you. First, they make a box that will fit around the ductwork. You can go to your local home center to find the correct size. Second, if you want more headroom, check out Zip-Up Ceilings, (888) 449-4787, www.zipupceiling.com. It is a great product that fits flat on the ceiling and gives you extra headroom. Don't screw into the duct work and paint. Using Smart Prime by Zinsser (800) 323-3584, www.rustoleum.com, will work.
