Have a plumber trace the leaks before fixing the mold problems

Dear Glenn: We have an older 1950's bungalow style home. Neither my boyfriend nor I are very handy when it comes to home repairs. On the unfinished side of the basement there is a bathroom that worked eight years ago, and then either a pipe broke in the wall or the walls leaked water from the outside. He closed off this bathroom, but there is visible mold in the wall and I'd like to get the bathroom fixed, and up and running again. In addition, you can see water stains on the cinderblock near the floor all along the same wall that the bathroom is on. This is also the same area that the washer and dryer are in, so I believe that entire wall of the home needs to be sealed, waterproofed, or fixed, however they do it.

Tana, Royal Oak

Dear Tana : Let's start by calling in a plumber to determine what it will take to make the plumbing work. Then you can address the rest of the project. Call Plumbing Professors, (800) 654-1300, www.plumbingprofessors.com, for a written quote.
